A branched light fixture that is decorative and at the same time ceiling mounted, the chandelier used to be favorites with the kings, nobles, clergies and wealthy class in the society in the past. Usually they have two or more arms bearing the lights.
Very often the chandeliers are ornate in colour and contain dozens of lamps as well as complex arrays of glasses or crystal prisms that can illuminate the room with lights generated through the process of refraction.
History of origin of the chandelier goes back to the medieval places of assembly. Normally the patterns were that of wooden cross with numerous spikes. These were the spikes on which the candles were secured. Whole assembly was hoisted with suitable height on the rope or chain that was suspended from some type of hook.
Later during the 15th century onwards complex forms of Chandeliers started making their appearance on the scenario. These chandeliers were based on rings or crowns. Gradually such designs started becoming popular decorative features.
More and more complex chandeliers started making their appearance on the scenario. At the same time they became popular decorative articles. Usually they were expensive and could be found only in the palaces and the homes of the elite class people. High costs involved in creation of night time luxuries took them beyond the affordability levels of most of the common people.
Even though the chandeliers are a bit out of place in modern environments yet they can make great decorative pieces in mass gatherings and banquet halls. That is why one finds them in the banquet and dining halls of top class hotels and conference halls today besides a few heritage palaces.
